About the Role
Begin your journey in education with this Level 3 apprenticeship, working with teachers to support pupils’ learning. You will gain experience supporting individuals and small groups, helping create a positive and inclusive learning environment. This is a great start to a career in education, with support and development opportunities.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Supporting the class teacher with delivering lessons and learning activities
- Working with individual pupils or small groups to reinforce learning
- Helping manage classroom behaviour and encouraging positive engagement
- Preparing learning materials and resources for lessons
- Assisting pupils with additional needs to access the curriculum
- Supervising pupils during break and lunchtime
- Supporting reading, writing and basic numeracy activities
- Helping maintain a safe, organised and inclusive classroom environment
- Recording pupil progress and feeding back to the class teacher
- Carrying out basic admin tasks such as photocopying and display work

Training

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

Training will be delivered by Best Practice Network, a specialist provider for Teaching Assistant apprenticeships
The programme is structured through core curriculum modules and additional specialist support areas such as SEND, behaviour, and one-to-one and group support
You will receive dedicated one-to-one guidance from an experienced apprenticeship tutor, with progress reviews and support sessions taking place approximately every 6 weeks, either online or in person
