Are you looking to build a career as an Electrician while working on some of Yorkshire's most important infrastructure projects? Do you want to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to the future of rail, energy and electric vehicle infrastructure?
This is an excellent opportunity to join AmcoGiffen's Electrical Engineering team as an Apprentice Electrician, developing practical electrical skills whilst working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
Due to an increase in secured work and the continued growth of our electrical operations, we are recruiting two Apprentice Electricians to support a diverse portfolio of projects across Yorkshire, including Network Rail infrastructure works, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging installations and maintenance activities at Drax Power Station.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience across multiple sectors whilst building the skills, knowledge and qualifications needed to become a fully qualified Electrician.

Business Unit
You will join our Yorkshire-based Electrical Engineering team operating from our Barnsley office.
The team delivers installation, maintenance, renewal and upgrade works across a broad range of critical infrastructure environments including rail, energy and decarbonisation projects. Current programmes include electrical works for Network Rail, Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure projects and industrial maintenance activities at Drax Power Station.
With a strong forward workload and long-term framework agreements in place, we are committed to investing in the next generation of electrical professionals.
The Role
As an Apprentice Electrician, you will work alongside experienced Electricians, Supervisors and Engineers, gaining valuable hands-on experience whilst completing your apprenticeship studies.
Your day-to-day activities may include:
- Assisting with electrical installation and maintenance works
- Supporting testing, inspection and commissioning activities
- Assisting with fault finding and electrical repairs
- Installing containment systems including tray, trunking and cable support systems
- Supporting EV charging infrastructure installations
- Assisting with maintenance works on industrial and rail electrical assets
- Learning how to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation
- Supporting planned and reactive maintenance activities
- Maintaining accurate site and maintenance records
- Developing an understanding of industry regulations and safe systems of work
- Working in accordance with health, safety, quality and environmental procedures
- Travelling to project sites throughout Yorkshire as required

Projects You Will Support
You will gain exposure to a broad range of live infrastructure projects including:
EV Infrastructure & Decarbonisation
- Electric Vehicle charging installations
- Power infrastructure upgrades
- Sustainable transport and decarbonisation programmes
Power Generation & Industrial Maintenance
- Electrical maintenance and improvement works at Drax Power Station
- Industrial electrical installation projects
- Testing, maintenance and fault-finding activities
Rail Infrastructure
- Electrical installations and maintenance works on Network Rail assets
- Rail station, depot and infrastructure projects
- Railway maintenance and renewal works
About You
To succeed in this role, you will:
- Have a genuine interest in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Installation
- Be motivated, proactive and keen to learn
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- Have good communication and problem-solving skills
- Be committed to working safely at all times
- Be willing to travel to project locations across Yorkshire
- GCSE Maths and English
- Full UK Driving Licence or working towards obtaining one
Beneficial
- Engineering, construction or technical experience
- IOSH or other Health & Safety qualifications
- Site management or site supervision qualifications
No previous electrical experience is required. We are looking for potential, enthusiasm and the right attitude, with the ambition to develop a long-term career as an Electrician.
