Apprentice Engineer
Working alongside our engineers, you will be involved in manufacturing our range of machinery. The role includes mechanical fitting, electrical wiring, quality checking, and testing.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including Science, English & Maths (grade 5-9 / C-A*)
- Applicants must be 18 or over, as the role involves visiting customer sites
- Access to a car for travel is preferred, but not essential. As the role progresses, it would be a significant advantage if applicants are able to drive
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical fitting
- Electrical wiring
- Sheet metal work
- Pneumatics
- Working at customer sites to install and commission machinery
- Reading, interpreting and understanding component/assembly specifications, diagrams, drawings, and work instructions
- Planning component/assembly tasks – materials, tools, and equipment
- Preparing work areas, sourcing required resources, tools, and equipment
- Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects
- Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting components/assemblies (e.g., using micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeters)
- Problem-solving: analysing and fixing issues where appropriate
- Applying improvement techniques: recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate
- Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external)
- Completing component/assembly documentation (e.g., job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation)
- Reporting work outcomes or issues
- Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning resources and consumables, and house-keeping
- Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams (recycling, re-using where appropriate)
- Operating within limits of responsibility
- Operating in line with quality, health and safety, and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks, hazards, and control measures where applicable

Application Process
- The apprenticeship includes time away from work for specialist training, studying to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Training provider: ENGINEERING TRUST TRAINING LIMITED
- Training course: Engineering fitter (level 3)
- Qualifications included: Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard, Company Training Plan & Assessment, Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college), Development Competence Qualification (workplace), Level 2 Functional Skills - maths (if required), Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required), End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship.
