Summary
This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the finance function of an international protein trading business. The apprentice will develop skills across financial reporting, trade finance, and financial planning and analysis, alongside formal study, building valuable technical and commercial knowledge.

Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 9.30pm. 40 hours a week

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The role will provide a strong foundation in finance, helping the trainee develop practical accounting knowledge, commercial awareness, and confidence in a business environment. Initial responsibilities will focus on supporting core finance activities, developing accuracy, meeting deadlines, and completing work to a high standard. A key part of the role will be assisting experienced team members while gaining a broader understanding of how finance supports the business.
Areas of involvement may include:
- Supporting management reporting
- Supporting the validation of sales profitability and the calculation of return on capital employed
- Developing proficiency in financial and business intelligence systems
- Supporting the trade finance team with tracking customer exposure, customer security, monitoring, and chasing payments
- Assisting with the processing of purchase invoices and supplier payments
- Assisting with month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Assisting with audit and compliance activities
- Providing administrative support to Finance team members as required
- Participating in departmental projects and process improvement initiatives

Training course: Assistant accountant (level 3)
What you'll learn
- Assist with the investigation of, and response to, financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using a range of approaches and media, with an understanding of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
Training schedule
The successful candidate will undertake a full review of their existing skills versus what is required in their new role. First Intuition will then advise on the best apprenticeship programme for them. This will be a structured AAT Apprenticeship programme at Level 3. A blend of classroom and online training will support the candidate to achieve a well-recognised accountancy qualification which will both help with their new role and potentially lead on to further study.
Training and Development:
- AAT Level 3 Apprenticeship: Classroom day-release training with an approved training provider
- Practical workplace experience alongside formal study
- Support from Finance team members
- Development of core accounting and business skills
Requirements
Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 5 or above)
- Maths (grade 5 or above)
- A Level in:
- Minimum of 112 UCAS points or equivalent (grade Approximately BBC)
