Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

A Financial Planning Assistant (FPA) performs a role similar to that commonly known within the industry as a paraplanner. The FPA position is client-facing and involves a higher level of direct involvement in client relationships and ongoing case management. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to build a long-term career in financial services. The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong technical knowledge while building confidence in working directly with clients. They should be comfortable communicating with clients, supporting advisers in meetings, and taking ownership of client cases as their experience grows.

This role offers a structured career pathway, as detailed in the table, with opportunities to progress into a Financial Planner position for candidates who demonstrate the required skills, qualifications, and commitment. You would be expected to quickly learn the ropes as a client administrator to give you the basis to progress your apprenticeship studies and develop your FPA skills. This position is office-based.

The FPA job description:

  • Support the business in building and maintaining deep, meaningful relationships with all clients
  • Coordinate meetings necessary to deliver our new and review meeting client propositions
  • Own client meeting preparation and post-meeting follow up work alongside our Financial Planners and Senior Paraplanners, including cashflow planning
  • Attend client meetings, assisting Financial Planners as and when required
  • Liaise with product providers to obtain and analyse existing policy information
  • Produce timely, compliant, and accurate meeting file notes, leading to the writing of quality suitability reports
  • Maintain a good understanding of all Platforms used to support our clients and produce accurate paperwork linked to the onboarding of new business e.g. Illustrations, Applications, KIIDs etc.
  • Maintain compliant client files

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
