Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT)

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Respiratory Physiology Department as a Healthcare Science Associate Apprentice (Respiratory Physiology). This is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist skills while contributing to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services for patients with respiratory disorders across one of the UK's largest NHS Trusts.

Working under the supervision of registered Respiratory Physiologists, you will undertake the Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate Apprenticeship, combining academic study with practical workplace learning. Throughout the programme, you will develop the knowledge and skills required to support a wide range of respiratory diagnostic investigations.

Once competency has been achieved, you will assist in the delivery of respiratory diagnostic testing, including spirometry and lung function testing. You will be responsible for preparing patients for investigations, collecting and recording accurate clinical data, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and providing compassionate, patient-centred care in line with NHS values.

This is initially a fixed term contract for the duration of the Apprenticeship programme. On successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification, the role will become permanent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing respiratory diagnostic tests such as spirometry, lung function testing, and overnight sleep studies.
  • Prepare patients for investigations and explain procedures clearly and sensitively.
  • Accurately record, process, and maintain patient data and test results.
  • Develop professional knowledge through workplace learning and academic study.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
