Hire Desk Controller Apprentice

We're looking for someone who is organised, approachable and ready to learn to join our team as a Hire Desk Controller Apprentice.
This is a great opportunity to build a career in the crane hire industry while gaining practical, on-the-job experience alongside a structured apprenticeship programme. You'll learn how a busy hire desk operates, how we support our customers and how our cranes and operational teams come together to deliver safe and reliable lifting solutions.
What will you be doing?
Working alongside the Depot Manager and Hire Desk team, you'll learn to:
- Speak with customers by phone and email, understanding their requirements and providing a helpful, professional service.
- Learn about Ainscough's cranes, services and hire processes.
- Support the team in turning hire enquiries into confirmed orders.
- Accurately capture customer, job and site information.
- Help coordinate hires, including checking crane availability and supporting fleet planning.
- Assist with quotations, order confirmations and hire documentation.
- Keep customer and hire records accurate and up to date.
- Build positive relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
- Support customer follow-ups and help maintain our high service standards.
- Check information for invoice accuracy and raise any discrepancies.
- Complete your apprenticeship training and apply what you learn in your day-to-day role.
- Take on more responsibility as your knowledge, skills and confidence develop.

What are we looking for?
You don't need previous experience in crane hire or the hire industry. What matters most is your attitude and willingness to learn.
We're Looking For Someone Who
- Has a positive attitude and is keen to develop a career.
- Is confident speaking to people and has a professional telephone manner.
- Can communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Is organised and pays attention to detail.
- Is comfortable using computers and willing to learn new systems.
- Can work as part of a team and build positive working relationships.
- Is reliable, self-motivated and willing to take responsibility.
- Is comfortable asking questions, taking feedback and learning from others.
- Has GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English, or is willing to achieve the required Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship.
