About the job

With excellent customer service at the heart of everything we do, our Technician Apprenticeship Scheme will develop the next generation of technicians to work in our world-class research centres, laboratories, and workshops, supporting the research and teaching we deliver. Our technicians will work with academic/research and administrative staff, and students, to maintain the highest standard of delivery.

The School of Psychology, of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, is offering an exciting opportunity to join Queen's University as an Apprentice IT Technician.

As an Apprentice IT Technician, you will join an established IT team within the School, supporting a diverse range of teaching, administrative, and research computing systems. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and practical experience required to assist in the delivery of frontline IT support, maintenance of core systems, and support for specialised research technologies. Over time, you will build the capability to operate independently and progress to fully performing the role of IT Technician within the School.

In partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College, learning and development will include on-job-training, mentoring, and the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification Level 3 Networking Infrastructure (BTEC Level 3 diploma in Professional Competence for IT Professionals and OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT). Enrolment and meeting the College requirements for the relevant course/qualification will be required; further guidance will be given to successful applicants. On completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship, there may be the opportunity to progress to a higher level apprenticeship.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
