Onyx Performance Apprenticeship Opportunity

About the Role

Onyx Performance is offering a full-time apprenticeship based 5 minutes from Langley College. Onyx specializes in performance car tuning, wheel refurbishment, and service centre. Apprentices will be given 1-1 training in both servicing and the wheel refurbishment department, along with helping with the tuning side of the business where needed.

What you'll do at work

  • Removing / refitting of wheels and tyres for the wheel refurbishment department.
  • Jacking vehicles up and safely putting them on axle stands for work to be completed.
  • Preparing wheels ready for the wheels to be painted.
  • Completing jobs such as oil changes, replacement of brakes, and other basic mechanical jobs.
  • Helping with larger jobs that come into the workshop alongside our experienced technicians.
  • Keeping the workshop clean and tidy.
  • Helping the tuning sector when needed.

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop.
  • Segregate waste for disposal or recycling.
  • Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in-depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web-based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

One day a week at Slough & Langley College.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English & Maths (grade 4/C or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

  • Cleaning and doing mechanical work.
  • This role requires you to be on time daily, complete tasks with a ‘can do’ attitude, and be motivated to complete all tasks to the best of your ability.

About this employer

ONYX Performance is a tuning company based in Langley SL3. Onyx has been established for 2020 and now has moved onto doing wheel refurbishments as well as opening up a service centre. The company is growing massively and now we are looking for a new member of the team.
