Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects. The role is part of their Local Authority sector and will be working on the Suffolk County Council street lighting maintenance contract based on their Melton depot.
Wage
- £17,680 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age.
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices.
Training Course
- Construction quantity surveying technician (level 4).
Hours
- 42 hours 30 minutes a week.
- Days and start times to be discussed.
Start Date
- Monday 7 September 2026.
Duration
- 3 years.

What You'll Do at Work
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents.
- Support the measurement and valuation of works, including site visits and take-offs.
- Help manage subcontractor procurement, including issuing enquiries and analysing quotations.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of applications for payment and final accounts.
- Support the administration of contracts, including NEC and bespoke forms.
- Help monitor project costs and progress against budgets.
- Assist in identifying and valuing variations and Compensation Events.
- Contribute to the preparation of cost reports and forecasts.
- Work closely with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors.
- Attend site meetings and contribute to commercial discussions.
- Liaise with suppliers and clients under supervision.
- Attend college/university as required and complete coursework on time.
- Participate in internal training and mentoring programmes.
- Maintain a development log and seek feedback to improve performance.

What You'll Learn

- Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
- Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
- Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
- Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
- Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
- Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Requirements
- Desirable qualifications:
- GCSE in: English or equivalent (grade 4/C), Mathematics or equivalent (grade 4/C).
- A Level in: any subject or equivalent (grade C).
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
- The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other Requirements
- There may be a requirement to travel between sites/depots so a full UK driving license is desirable.
