Apprentice Receptionist

Summary

We are looking for an apprenticeship to join our small but friendly team to work on reception at our busy GP practice.

Wage £12,480 a year

Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)

Once training given there may be an option of extended access on a Thursday 6.30-8.30pm (paid extra).

Training

Course: Customer service practitioner (level 2)

Hours: Monday to Friday - times to be confirmed. 30 hours a week

Start date: Monday 26 October 2026

Duration: 1 year

Training course: Customer service practitioner (level 2)

Course contents:

  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications.
  • Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Essential qualifications:

  • GCSE in: English (grade 3-9)
  • Maths (grade 3-9)

About this employer

We are looking for someone to join our small, friendly team at our busy GP practice. We currently have 2 GP's, 1 Practice Nurse and 1 Health Care assistant. We pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service and maintain a welcoming environment for our clients and employees.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Greet and welcome visitors in a professional manner
  • Answer and direct phone calls
  • Signpost patients to correct service
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, team members and external organisations
  • Clinically code data on EMIS web clinical system
  • Scan documentation when required
  • Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
  • Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary
  • Manage queries as necessary in an efficient manner
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and effective working area
  • Monitor and maintain reception area
  • Support clinical staff with general tasks as requested
