The diversity of the product offering encompasses a Luxury hotel, with 204 rooms within the main Hotel and Villa accommodation, 11 meeting rooms, 3 golf courses, The Spa at Turnberry and Turnberry Adventures across the grounds of the 827-acre resort. The property is owned and managed by The Trump Organisation.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Spa Apprenticeship is an apprenticeship programme aimed to inspire, nurture and develop the next generation of highly skilled talent for the Spa at Turnberry. The apprenticeship offers the opportunity to study professional Spa treatments and allows you to develop the key skills to achieve an internationally recognised CIBTAC qualification in Level 3 Massage and Level 2 Facials. Apprentices will be offered a full-time permanent position on a competitive salary.
APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK
The programme is delivered in a mixed format of onsite and offsite training. The first three months of the apprenticeship will be spent working within Spa Reception, allowing the apprentice to build a strong understanding of the Spa, its facilities, treatments, systems and day-to-day operation. This will provide a strong foundation of knowledge and experience before progressing onto their therapist training.
Following the initial three-month period on Spa Reception, the apprentice will begin their therapist course and continue to develop their practical and theoretical skills alongside their role within the Spa.
Initially, the apprentice will have 5 days offsite to introduce each programme, followed by weekly check-ins with the trainer and an assessment. Any offsite travel will be at the company's expense.
LEVEL 3 MASSAGE FRAMEWORK - 12 WEEKS
- Provide body massage practical & theory
- Anatomy and physiology for beauty and spa therapy
- Monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon
LEVEL 2 FACIAL FRAMEWORK - 12 WEEKS
- Provide facial skincare - practical & theory
- Anatomy and physiology for beauty and spa therapy
- Monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon
ADVANCED MASSAGE UNITS
Additional units available as ongoing training and development, which will be discussed and agreed with the apprentice as part of their programme. Units include (but are not limited to):
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Hot Stone Massage
- Salt Stone Massage
- Bamboo Massage
- Nurturing Touch Massage (Oncology Massage)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
TREATMENT STANDARDS/OPERATIONS
- Performs all treatments to an exceptional standard, as per the protocols and standards taught in training, whilst tailoring to the client’s specific needs.
- Updates own knowledge of products and treatment brand standards, outside of formal training by product ranges and Senior Spa Associates.
- Carries out an in-depth consultation with each client prior to treatment, ensuring medical history and concerns are identified.
- Protects the guest experience by moving quietly around the treatment room and in corridors.
- Uses the correct quantities of products as specified by the manufacturer and does not exceed that amount.
- Mains linen and product levels in the treatment rooms, ensuring products are stocked, clean and organised as per the spa standards.
- Follows treatment room opening and closing procedures correctly, reporting any maintenance issues to the Spa Duty Manager.
GUEST RELATIONS
- Displays genuine care and concern for the guests’ journey, to ensure an exceptional, indigenous experience for all Spa guests and visitors.
- Mains the highest standard of luxury guest service by following Spa and Forbes operating standards and protocols.
- Consistently records guest preferences, accurately updating guest profiles and communicating any relevant information to colleagues, ensuring full attention to detail at all times.
- Ensures confidentiality of all guest, business and employee data at all times, including data protection, medical details and any information provided in confidence.
- Report any guest complaints to the Spa Duty Manager so that they may be handled promptly and effectively.
- Perform any other duties deemed reasonable by the Spa Manager on Duty, to contribute to the workflow of the department.
SPA & RETAIL SALES
- Ensures aftercare recommendations are made at the end of every treatment, linking with client concerns and offering to prepare products at reception for purchase.
- Encourages clients to rebook by recommending an ongoing treatment programme and cross-selling the other offers in the spa.
- Mains a sound knowledge of all treatments, packages and any promotions.
- Participates in demonstrations/events as required.
- Responsible for achieving individual retail sales targets as set by the Spa Management team.
