Leicester College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Sports Coach to join our thriving Sports Academy team. This exciting opportunity combines hands-on coaching experience, and the opportunity to lead the Men's Football Pathway Squad through the competitive season.

Wage: Competitive wage offered
Training course: Sports coach (level 4)
Hours: TBC 37 hours a week
Start date: Monday 26 October 2026
Duration: 2 years

Are you passionate about football coaching and looking to take the next step in your development? Working alongside experienced sports professionals, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality coaching sessions, supporting student-athletes to reach their potential, and contributing to the growth of our wider Sports Academy programme.

This role is ideal for an aspiring coach who wants to develop their practical coaching skills while gaining valuable experience in an educational sporting environment.

About the Role

As Apprentice Sports Coach, you will lead and support coaching provision within the Men's Football Academy, delivering engaging and development-focused sessions for Further Education students.

You will work closely with the Sport Development Officer to develop the football pathway, support competitive fixtures, and help create a positive and inclusive sporting experience for all participants across the Academies.

Alongside your day-to-day coaching responsibilities, you will undertake a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship, applying your learning directly within the role to develop your coaching knowledge, leadership skills and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coaching Delivery
    • Plan and deliver high-quality football coaching sessions within the Men’s Football Academy (Men’s Pathway)
    • Work alongside the Sport Development Officer (SDO) to design and develop the football offer at Leicester College
    • Lead sessions that develop technical, tactical, physical and match performance
    • Take responsibility for session planning, delivery and evaluation
    • Support match-day preparation, analysis and performance review
  • Student Development & Engagement
    • Build positive, professional relationships with FE students
    • Promote an inclusive coaching environment, ensuring all students can participate regardless of ability or background
    • Support students to engage in sport alongside their studies and promote wider participation
    • Actively promote physical activity and engagement across the College
    • Act as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating College professional values
  • Wider Sports Academy Contribution
    • Support the delivery of fixtures, competitions and trips across all academies and the wider Sport provision
    • Organise and lead promotional events to support recruitment and engagement
    • Positively represent Leicester College at internal and external meetings and events
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the wider Sports Academy offer
  • Administration, Planning & Resources
    • Accurately record attendance for training sessions and fixtures in a timely manner
    • Support the creation and scheduling of marketing and social media content to promote academy activity, results and opportunities
    • Ensure equipment and kit is regularly reviewed, maintained and available to support effective delivery
  • AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.

Embrace the high-performance context, culture, organisational direction, and codes to deliver effective coaching processes.

Profile athletes or players to measure bio-psycho-social attributes and inform whole person optimisation.

Profile athlete/players to measure sport specific technical and tactical attributes and inform sustainable development and high-performance goals.

Plan sessions that consider high performance athlete's/player's unique needs, goals, curriculum, progressive programmes, practice, and competition schedules.

Prepare for sessions by organising resources, conducting event risk assessment and ensures safe operating procedures in line with high performance sport policy.

Deliver safe, inclusive sessions and makes adaptations in the moment to accelerate development and maximise performance gains through relevant coaching and communication methods.

More training information

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Attendance at Loughborough College for an Induction Day (9:30am-3pm) once enrolled. (Confirmation of date provided upon enrolment).

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade C/4)
    • Maths (grade C/4)

Minimum of UEFA C Diploma Coaching in:

(FA Level 2) (grade Pass)
