Summary
Anthony Gell School is seeking an Apprentice Teaching Assistant to support students with additional needs. Working under the guidance of class teachers and the SENDCO, you will help students learn independently and in groups. Support may be provided 1:1, in small groups, or within the classroom.
Wage: £15,392 to £24,454.04, depending on your age
National Minimum Wage: Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)
Pay is per Derbyshire County Council salary scheme.
Pay is on the 25th of each month.
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The apprenticeship role involves the following:
- Liaising effectively with colleagues, managers, students, and parents/carers.
- Be an effective mentor and role model for students.
- Promote high expectations of students with learning, development, and behaviour.
- Support students and their integration into classroom environments; supporting their access to the curriculum.
- Facilitate and support groups of students in Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 (Year 7 to 13).
- Contribute to the management of transition arrangements for students.

- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals, and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding, and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up-to-date technology safely to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Anthony Gell School is a very successful, inclusive, 11-18 school situated in the Derbyshire Dales within the market town of Wirksworth.
