Hands-on learning as a teaching assistant in a small village school. We offer a small team who will all support you in your learning, as well as a range of varied opportunities for you to experience from making fires in forest school to running a mile a day with our children.
- Wage: £14,352 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- Training course: Teaching assistant (level 3)
- Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm, 34 hours 30 minutes a week
- Start date: Monday 2 November 2026
- Duration: 1 year 6 months

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Work with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils
- Promote pupils’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion
- Give support to pupils, individually or in groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning, and experience a sense of achievement
- Organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment
- Observe pupil performance and pass observations on to the class teacher
- Communicate effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the class teacher

What you'll learn
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals, and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding, and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up-to-date technology safely to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
- Support to achieve Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours as laid out in the apprenticeship standard
- Support from an experienced assessor to assess work and practice
- Individual learning programme, tailored to own needs
- E-learning, training, and monthly tutorials specific to your apprenticeship
- Mentor and support in the workplace
- A minimum of 6 hours per week during paid time to be used for learning and development opportunities
- English and maths Functional Skills (if required)
Apprenticeship Assessment
At the end of the apprenticeship, you will obtain the Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.

Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in: Maths/English (grade A* to C or 4-9)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
