Summary
Alvaston Infant and Nursery School wishes to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, who will work closely with the Headteacher, inclusion team and SENDCOs to support children with SEND and/or disabilities. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs.
Wage
£17,662.32 a year
Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) £9.18 Per hour.

You will be required to be flexible and work from 07:30 and until 18:00 on some days, as agreed with the school, depending on the school’s needs. 30-minute lunch break per day. 37 hours a week

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support children with their learning and development, both individually and in small groups, under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Help create a safe, caring and inclusive environment where all children can thrive.
- Build positive relationships with children, particularly those with additional needs, and support their emotional well-being.
- Assist with planning, preparing and delivering classroom activities and learning resources.
- Observe and monitor children's progress, providing feedback to teachers and maintaining appropriate records.
- Support children with personal care needs, including hygiene, dressing, eating and toileting where required.
- Encourage children's independence, confidence and self-esteem in learning and everyday activities.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, child protection, behaviour management and health and safety requirements.
- Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and other professionals to support children's development and wellbeing.
- Assist with therapy, care plans, interventions and personalised learning programmes where appropriate.
- Support learning beyond the classroom through educational visits, lunchtime activities and enrichment opportunities.
- Take part in staff meetings, training and professional development activities, and contribute positively to the wider life of the school.

- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade C/4 or above)
- Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
