Summary
Alvaston Infant and Nursery School wishes to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, who will work closely with the Headteacher to further support our most vulnerable children, including those who may have a social worker. We are looking for someone who has an understanding of the challenges that vulnerable children may face.
Wage
£17,662.32 a year
Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) £9.18 Per hour.

You will be required to be flexible and work from 07:30 and until 18:00 on some days, as agreed with the school, depending on the school’s needs.
30-minute lunch break per day.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support children with their learning and development, both individually and in small groups, under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Build positive relationships with children and support those who may face additional barriers to learning.
- Help provide a safe, caring and inclusive environment, following safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
- Assist with planning, preparing and delivering learning activities, resources and educational visits.
- Support children's confidence, independence, social skills and emotional wellbeing.
- Observe and monitor children's progress, maintaining records and providing feedback to teachers.
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the needs of individual children.
- Support personalised learning plans, interventions and therapy programmes where required.
- Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating.
- Administer first aid or medication, and support children's health and welfare needs, following agreed procedures and training.
- Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and other professionals to support children's development and wellbeing.
- Contribute to staff meetings, training and professional development activities.
- Support the wider life of the school through events, activities and other duties as required.

- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in: English (grade C/4 or above)
- Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)
