What you'll learn
Course contents
- Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance. Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. For example, segregation of resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
- Comply with engineering standards and regulations. For example, British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation standards (ISO). European Norm (EN).
- Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. For example, read and interpret text, data, engineering drawings, work instructions, method statements, operation manuals.
- Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
- Apply problem solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
- Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
- Produce job specific technical outputs. For example, engineering drawings, quality control management, computer control programming, business improvement, adverse incident reports, technical investigations, equipment appraisals and specifications.
- Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders. For example, checklists, product or process status, access to supporting documents.

Training schedule
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Off-the-job training will follow the time allocations outlined in the Occupational Standard. This Apprenticeship requires 2 days per week at college in the first year (Term Time only), then onto 1 day per week. Tamworth Campus.
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths & English (grade 4-9 (A*- C))

About this employer
Brown and Holmes specialises in the design and manufacture of superior quality workholding solutions, producing 3D printed prototypes and delivering both precision machining and sub-contract machining solutions. The second site, on Anders has a robot demonstration area, a dedicated assembly, test and inspection facility plus equipment to provide specialist 10 tonne lifting capabilities. It also houses our own Apprenticeship training centre and 3D printers. 3D printed prototypes can also made in different materials including carbon fibre, polyurethane, thermoplastics, acrylics and polymers. Brown and Holmes also has a range of internationally renowned products that offer complementary technology to our workholding, handling and automation solutions. These include Techman robots, Swisschucks precision power chucks, Fresmak ARNOLD high pressure vices and MistBuster mist and smoke extraction units. We supply our solutions and products to many different sectors including companies from automotive, aerospace, power generation, nuclear, defence construction, medical, pharmaceutical and machine tool industries. We have a wide range of end users and sub-contractors who are based nationally within the UK and Ireland in addition to our exports across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and America. A great deal of our success can be attributed to our commitment to training. Many employees have been with the company since starting work and we train new apprentices every year in our own Apprenticeship School.
