Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Training schedule

This training schedule has not been finalised. Check with this employer if you’ll need to travel to a college or training location for this apprenticeship.

More training information

We regularly have training opportunities from our Local Government Bodies - the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC). Both provide training on a range of subjects, including local government legislation, finance, the role of a local council and councillors and on the role of a Town or Parish Clerk. In addition, we attend meetings of the SLCC and NALC for updates on matters affecting the local council sector as they arise. We also have access to in-house Health & Safety training. Looking further ahead, an apprentice could go on to complete the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) which qualifies them as a Clerk.

  • GCSE in:

Other requirements

The job will inevitably involve responding to complaints from members of the public if answering the telephone or manning the office reception. However, this would only ever be with the support of the Town Clerk or Assistant Clerk.

The Town Council works at the very heart of the local community, supporting the democratic process, looking after public assets, and facilitating community events that make the town thrive. Unlike high-level principal authorities (like County or Unitary councils), a Town Council is the tier of local government closest to the people, dealing directly with residents' everyday lives. Working for the Town Council means you are working to directly benefit and enhance the lives of the people who reside in the parish.

Your earnings can increase over time with an apprenticeship. Find out about potential future pay (opens in new tab). Once the Business Administration apprenticeship is complete, the career progression within the sector is to complete CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration) which is the basic qualification needed for most Clerk positions. From there, you can also go on to do BA (Hons) Degree in Community Governance but this is not a requirement of the role.
