Job Title: Apprentice Trainer
Company Overview
Tees Components are a subcontract engineering business providing CNC machining and associated mechanical engineering services for a wide range of sectors, with a very strong order book within the UK and for export. Our established apprentice training programme has run successfully for many years, and we have an excellent culture in the business for supporting and developing apprentices into qualified roles.
Role Overview
We are seeking an Apprentice Trainer to develop and support our machine shop apprentices at our onsite training facility.
The purpose of this role is to develop a small cohort of machine shop apprentices from entry-level to competence in basic small milling and turning, and shop floor behaviours.
The trainer will support the recruitment and selection process, train the apprentices for their first 12-18 months of work, and continue support as they progress into the machine shop under supervision of works management.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a small cohort of apprentices using manual and CNC lathes and milling machines, hand tools, and inspection equipment, in our on-site training workshop
- Instruct the apprentices in manual use, online and offline programming, basic setting principles, reading drawings, understanding tolerances and GDTs, tooling selection, bench work, measurement etc. following company ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 management systems and processes
- Develop tasks and organise materials and instructions for apprentices to produce components (for use in-house, e.g. work-holding)
- Oversee apprentices working on production components (contract work)
- Support recruitment of new apprentices (with senior managers)
- Review training plans and progress made, with college/training provider assessors
- Support Head of People and Head of Engineering dealing with any apprentice performance issues
- Liaise with training provider (college), share updates on apprentice progress
- Be a mentor to the apprentices and support mentoring by others
- Host tours and visits from school, college, university and other groups to encourage careers in mechanical engineering
- Attend careers events to encourage future apprentice applications
- Host works experience placements
- Support apprentices in becoming ambassadors for engineering careers

What We’re Looking For
- Knowledge of manual and CNC machining and mechanical engineering principles
- Understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and manufacturing documentation
- Understanding of use of manual measurement equipment
- Skilled in programming and CAD/CAM
- Knowledge of tooling, workholding and cutting technology
- Good communication skills, approachable and able to be positive and give constructive feedback
- Previous experience of training others is desirable but not essential.

LOCATION: Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, North East England
JOB TYPE: Part Time or Full-Time, Permanent / Fixed Term
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Thursday 08:00–16:30, Friday 07:00 – 13:00, Flexible Working and part time hours can be applied to this role. Part year working can also be applied to this role. Hybrid or Home Working is not applicable to this role.
