Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
Come and join the busy Major Transport Projects and Central Capital Team at Leicester City Council and help to transform and improve the city's transport system. Both teams develop and deliver highway and transport schemes to improve Leicester's roads and streets. Our portfolio covers a wide range of highway and civil engineering activities including junction and road design, public realm improvements, bus infrastructure, cycleways, footways and contract and construction management. The team consists of Transport Professional staff (Design Engineers and Project Managers) who carry out a varied range of design and project management tasks.
Join us as an Apprentice Transport Professional to support the team in the projects we undertake as well as eventually developing your own schemes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent college or university graduate to assist with the delivery of major transport projects and increase your knowledge and experience in this field.

This is a full time post, you will work 37 hours per week and be based at City Hall in the centre of Leicester although there will also be opportunities to work from home and go out on site.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will support the design engineers and project managers within the teams with the projects they're currently working on and may even get given your own project to manage. Your day-to-day tasks may include learning highway design, carrying out surveys, analysing data, gathering utility information, requesting topographical surveys, calculating scheme costs, being involved in public consultation as well as general administrative tasks such as attending meetings and taking minutes and using the Council's finance system to support other team members.

What You’ll Need
You will need to be organised, work to tight deadlines and work as part of a team. You will need to be proficient in using IT applications, producing letters, presentations and working with spreadsheets. It would be great if you were able to use AutoCAD and/or other design software too.
Most importantly you'll share our commitment to ensuring the Council's transport policies are implemented and sustainable modes of transport are promoted.
A driving licence would be useful but you will also have access to the council's pool bikes to be able to get out on site to visit our projects.
