Apprentice Wireless Communications Technician
You'll learn how to program, service and install all types of wireless technology equipment - radio communications, CCTV and GPS tracking products, as well as gaining flexible and valuable skill sets within the IT and Telecom fields.
Requirements
- Ability to travel to customer sites across the South West, which may require early starts or late finishes.
- Desirable: BTEC in Information Technology (grade Pass).
- Willingness to share other relevant qualifications and industry experience for potential apprenticeship adjustment.
Responsibilities
- Operate, program, and service all types of radio communications and repeater systems.
- Configure and service CCTV cameras, wireless links, and other hardware.
- Assist with testing, repairing, and maintenance of electronic systems.
- Install and uninstall equipment in vehicles, heavy mobile plant, machinery, and office environments.
- Adhere to safe working practices, health, and safety regulations.
- Liaise effectively with team members.
- Work with electrical wiring, cutting tools, multimeters, and soldering electronic components.
- Use power tools, engage in lifting and carrying, climb ladders, work at heights, and operate Mobile Elevated Working Platforms.
- Manage files, complete forms, and document procedures.
- Utilize a range of computer software.
- Learn on the job through hands-on experience.
- Undertake specialist training, including Functional Skills in English and maths if required.
- Complete an online portfolio during work hours.
- Operate the planning process including equipment selection.
- Select appropriate locations as part of the planning process.
- Install or support the installation of equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and design details.
- Perform administrative tasks including installation reports and test results.
- Identify causes of frequency interference and other noise sources.
- Prioritize, plan, and organize work activities using a methodical approach.
- Select required frequencies for radio paths using software, manual calculations, or system planning tools.
- Access and use test systems.
- Report faults and use the required escalation process.
- Collate and input fault data and statements into the fault management system.
- Rectify faults within your area or escalate as necessary.
- Utilize software monitoring tools, user information, or gathered test data to modify radio networks or links to overcome communication issues.
- Configure and maintain networks supporting Radio Frequency (RF) systems.
- Gather network performance information and user insight through feedback or user experience.
- Identify procedures to enhance and improve system performance.
- Analyze data, draw conclusions, and understand organizational impacts.
- Apply organizational security policies.
- Access sites according to required procedures.
- Create written work plans and communicate them to team members.
- Use customer feedback to process, prioritize, and resolve issues.
- Work in agile, multi-disciplinary delivery teams, taking a flexible, collaborative, and pragmatic approach.
- Review own development needs and stay up-to-date with technological developments.

- Wage: £16,640 for the first year, with potential increases based on age and completion of apprenticeship.
