Fenland District Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Services team as an Apprentice Workshop Technician. Through this structured 3 year apprenticeship programme, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to become a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Technician while working alongside experienced professionals in a busy workshop environment.
As part of your development, you will also have the opportunity to undertake HGV driver training, helping you build a broad range of skills to support your future career.
About The Role
Working within our established workshop team, you will learn how to inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of vehicles, plant, and equipment, including:
- Heavy and light goods vehicles
- Refuse collection vehicles
- Sweepers
- Vans
- Plant and machinery
- Sewage treatment works and pumping station equipment
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gain practical experience while studying towards a recognised qualification and attending college one day per week.

- Is reliable and committed to completing an apprenticeship programme
- Can communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
Essential Requirements
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and workshop practices to Level 2/3
- Commitment to attending college one day per week throughout the apprenticeship
- Ability to work safely and follow health and safety procedures
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Right to work in the UK
