Potentia Engineering is an NICEIC Approved Contractor and MCS-certified business delivering commercial solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging infrastructure and grid-connected electrical works.
We are looking for an experienced Approved Electrician to lead our sites day-to-day, delivering installations from engineered designs and ensuring every project is compliant, tested and certified the first time.
You will report to the Operations Manager, with technical support from the company’s Chartered Engineer.
The role
As Site Lead, you will coordinate site activities, supervise electrical installations and ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating electrical operatives, subcontractors, scaffolders, deliveries and daily site sequencing.
- Managing site progress and providing clear daily updates to the Programme Manager.
- Interpreting design packs, including single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, DC string layouts and protection settings.
- Raising requests for information where site conditions differ from the design, rather than making unauthorised changes.
- Installing, inspecting and testing AC and DC systems to BS 7671, including Section 712 for photovoltaic systems and Chapter 82 for prosumer installations.
- Working in accordance with the IET Codes of Practice for solar PV and electrical energy storage systems.
- Completing initial verification, Electrical Installation Certificates, schedules of inspections and test results.
- Verifying earth fault loop impedance, RCD performance, insulation resistance and DC string open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current against design values.
- Supporting G98 and G99 commissioning, including DNO witness testing where required.
- Briefing and enforcing RAMS, safe isolation procedures, permits and working-at-height controls.
- Maintaining accurate site records to CHAS standards.
- Mentoring improvers and apprentices.

About you
You will be an experienced Approved Electrician who is confident leading commercial sites and making sound decisions in the field. You will understand when work can proceed, when it requires further investigation and when a technical query must be escalated. We are looking for someone who takes pride in both the installation and the paperwork: tidy containment, clear records and compliant work delivered to a high standard.
You should have:
- At least two years’ experience leading commercial electrical sites.
- The ability to read and interpret electrical designs and installation documentation.
- Experience coordinating people, materials and activities on active construction sites.
- A methodical approach to inspection, testing and certification.
- A strong commitment to safe working practices.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with clients, subcontractors and engineering teams.
- A full UK driving licence.

Essential qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification, such as C&G 2357, 5357 or equivalent.
- AM2 or AM2S.
- C&G 2382 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, including the current amendment.
- C&G 2391 Inspection and Testing, or equivalent C&G 2394/2395 qualifications.
- ECS Gold Card at JIB Approved Electrician grade.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Commercial solar PV, BESS or EV charging experience.
- C&G 2399, 2921 or 2922 qualifications.
- Three-phase distribution, CT metering and containment installation.
- G99 commissioning and export limitation systems.
- SSSTS or SMSTS.
- IPAF and PASMA.
- First aid certification.
- Experience working on grid-connected renewable energy projects.
