Genuine Growth Hire into a Lean, Fast-Growing Specialist Arbitration Practice with Elite US Compensation

A leading international firm is running a live, active search for a 3 PQE Associate to join its International Arbitration team in London. This is a genuine expansion hire driven by significant workload growth rather than replacement recruitment. The team is described internally as extremely busy, and the requirement is specifically for additional mid-level resource to bridge its existing senior and junior associate coverage. The search is moving quickly, with candidates already at interview stage, so strong profiles are encouraged to move promptly.

Role Overview

This is a pure international arbitration role, not a broader commercial litigation position with occasional arbitration exposure. The practice handles genuinely sophisticated, high-value cross-border disputes across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Energy and natural resources
  • Mining
  • Infrastructure
  • Financial services
  • Private equity
  • Pharmaceuticals and life sciences
  • Technology
  • Aerospace and defence

Clients span multinational corporates, financial institutions, sovereign states, state-owned entities, investors, and private equity and investment clients with matters conducted under major arbitral rules including ICC, LCIA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL. Candidates with both commercial arbitration and investor-state arbitration experience are particularly well suited.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What Sets This Apart

  • A structurally clear need, not a vague search. The team already has strong junior and senior coverage. This is a precisely defined mid-level gap, meaning genuine, well-defined responsibility from day one rather than an ambiguous or opportunistic hire.
  • Lean team, meaningful responsibility. A compact London associate structure means significant partner interaction and real ownership of matters, rather than being one of many mid-level associates competing for visibility.
  • Genuine specialisation. A pure international arbitration career path for candidates who want to commit to the specialism, rather than maintaining a mixed commercial litigation and arbitration practice.
  • Substantial cross-office collaboration, particularly with the firm's Washington, DC arbitration practice, offering genuine international breadth beyond the London desk.
  • Elite US compensation, with an NQ salary currently around £180,000 and a competitive bonus structure reflecting the calibre of platform and workload.
  • A growing practice at a genuinely active moment. Joining during a period of real workflow and practice expansion offers a different trajectory to joining an already mature, static team.

What They Are Looking For

  • Strong international arbitration experience, ideally from a leading international arbitration practice (specialist boutiques, Magic Circle/leading UK arbitration teams, elite US firms, or strong international disputes teams)
  • Substantive exposure to complex, high-value cross-border disputes
  • Experience under major arbitral rules (ICC, LCIA, ICSID, UNCITRAL)
  • Strong written and analytical skills, with excellent academics and technical grounding
  • Comfortable operating within a lean team and taking meaningful responsibility at mid-level
  • A genuine, committed interest in building a long-term career in international arbitration specifically, rather than general commercial litigation
  • 3 PQE is a firm requirement, with limited flexibility above or below this level
