Are you passionate about trees, the outdoors, and working in a hands-on environment? We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Arborist Apprentice to join our friendly and professional team. You'll work across a variety of beautiful landscapes, including country estates, private gardens, commercial properties, and public spaces.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of health and safety needs onsite and ability to work safely
  • Ability to complete site-specific risk assessments and emergency action plans
  • Willingness to learn to select appropriate equipment for tree work operations
  • Ability to learn to set out workplace signage (highway & non highway) and assist with traffic control
  • Willingness to learn to process tree work arisings using appropriate machinery
  • Ability to maintain and take appropriate care of tools, equipment and other onsite factors (such as customer or public buildings etc.)
  • Willingness to learn to recognise a variety of tree species using common names
  • Willingness to learn to carry out a range of formative pruning operations
  • Ability to carry out branch removal up to 200mm diameter with hand tools (target pruning for final cut)
  • Ability to fell and process small trees up to 380mm diameter
  • Willingness to support aerial tree workers with transfer of equipment for aerial tree work operations
  • Ability to perform an aerial rescue of colleague from a rope and harness
  • Willingness to work safely at height in the tree under supervision
  • Ability to communicate technical information about arboricultural operations to fellow team members, clients and other stakeholders as required

Responsibilities

  • Tree care and maintenance
  • Tree and hedge planting
  • Hedge cutting and management
  • Involvement in a variety of arboricultural projects that make a real impact on the environment

Benefits

  • Wage: Competitive wage offered
  • Training course: Arborist (level 2)
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.30am-5pm (one day a fortnight attendance to college). 42 hours 30 minutes a week
  • Start date: Saturday 1 August 2026
  • Duration: 1 year 6 months
  • Apprenticeship: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
  • Training provider: THE WINDSOR FOREST COLLEGES GROUP
  • Training schedule: Training will take place at Berkshire College of Agriculture, once a fortnight.
  • Earning potential: Your earnings can increase over time with an apprenticeship. Further training available.
