St Albans Basement is a specialist design and construction practice delivering high-end basement conversions, luxury interior schemes, and property development projects for private clients across London and the Home Counties. As part of the Dower Group, we combine architectural design with in-house construction and development delivery, giving our architects rare end-to-end involvement in projects from initial concept through to completion.
We're looking for a qualified, ARB/RIBA-registered Architect to join our studio in St Albans. Full-time flexible around school hours or part-time considered.

The role
You'll lead the design and technical development of luxury residential, basement, and property development projects, working closely with clients, structural engineers, and our own construction and development teams. This is a hands-on role covering everything from feasibility, planning, and site appraisal through to detailed technical design and site support during construction — ideal for someone who wants to see their designs actually built, not just handed off.
What we're looking for
An ARB/RIBA-registered Architect with a strong portfolio of high-end residential, basement/subterranean, or development-led work, confident running RIBA Stages 1–6, and comfortable liaising directly with clients, contractors, and structural engineers on technically demanding projects. Experience with listed buildings, party wall matters, complex below-ground construction, or planning-led development schemes would be a strong advantage. Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD is expected.

What we offer
A competitive salary, dependent on experience, plus the opportunity to work on some of the region's most technically interesting residential and development projects, with direct exposure to the construction and development side of the business.
Salary: £45,000–£60,000 FTE, depending on experience (pro rata for part-time).
