RIBA Part 1 Architectural Assistant
Salary: £25,000-£27,000 + Performance Related Bonus
Position: Full-time - Permanent
About the Company
Coles Conservation Architects are looking for a talented and driven Part 1 Architecture student to join our growing team, working across a diverse range of historically significant buildings in London and the South.
We are fortunate to work on some of the nation's most beloved heritage assets. Our current projects include The Great Hall at London’s Guildhall, Temple Bar, the Hill Garden Pergola, Hampstead Heath, Keats House and Library in Hampstead, The Central Criminal Courts, St Margaret Pattens and St James Garlickhythe in the City of London. As well as our work on public building and monuments we have a portfolio of private historic houses, predominantly in and around London.
About the Role
Our work spans sensitive repair, adaptation, and reuse, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, technical rigour, and a thorough understanding of historic fabric.
The role will involve contributing to and assisting in building condition surveys, planning and listed building consent applications, technical design, building control applications, construction supervision and contract administration.

You would be joining a small, close-knit team who are passionate about heritage.
Who We Are Looking For
We are keen to talk to Part 1 students who have a passion for heritage and listed buildings. Candidates should have an aptitude for well-considered design and attention to detail. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree from a reputable Architecture School and demonstrate a conservation-focused portfolio of work.
Essential Skills/Knowledge
- Keen interest in historic building conservation.
- Ability to contribute to high quality design with some technical ability and some knowledge of building construction.
- Some knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and conservation best practice.
- Some knowledge of British Architectural History.
- Ability to assist in the writing of various reports and presentations.
- Proficiency in Vectorworks, Sketchup and Adobe Suite – Photoshop and InDesign in particular.
- Well organised, proactive and enthusiastic in approach to work and projects.
- Excellent communication skills are essential.
- Willingness to travel from the Huntingdon office into London and the home counties.
- Eligible to work in the UK.

What We Offer
This hybrid role is based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, with projects located across London and the home counties. The role requires 4 days to be spent in the office each week with one home working day if desired. The basic salary offered will be £25,000-£27,000 dependant on experience. There is a performance-related bonus scheme and other benefits including the cycle-to-work scheme, generous holiday allowance, flexible working policy, CPD, studio trips and pension contributions.
