Technician or Technical Architect
The Technician or Technical Architect will assist project teams with coordination of design information, compliance with relevant standards & regulations, & integration of engineering and infrastructure requirements.
The Technician or Technical Architect’s role at Nicoll Russell Studios Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in the practice’s Dundee studios. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing detailed technical drawings, digital models, and specifications to support architectural and interior design projects. The Technician or Technical Architect will assist project teams with coordination of design information, compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and integration of engineering and infrastructure requirements. The role involves working closely with architects and designers, updating documentation throughout the project lifecycle, and ensuring that information is accurate and clearly presented.

The Technician or Technical Architect will also contribute to project administration tasks, support quality assurance processes, and help maintain organised digital and physical project records.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed technical drawings, digital models, and specifications to support architectural and interior design projects.
- Assisting project teams with coordination of design information, compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and integration of engineering and infrastructure requirements.
- Working closely with architects and designers, updating documentation throughout the project lifecycle, and ensuring that information is accurate and clearly presented.
- Contributing to project administration tasks.
- Supporting quality assurance processes.
- Maintaining organised digital and physical project records.
Requirements
- Strong technical drafting skills using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Revit).
- Understanding of architectural & interior design principles, building construction methods, & UK building regulations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed plans, sections, elevations, & technical documentation.
- Effective communication & collaboration skills, with the ability to work as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good organisational & time management abilities, including managing multiple tasks & meeting deadlines.
- Relevant technical qualification or diploma in architectural technology, construction, or ARB registration.
- Previous 5 years’ experience in a Scottish architectural practice.
- Commitment to continuous learning, attention to detail, & a proactive approach to problem-solving & quality assurance.
