The Environment
Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, north west London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world, with around 840 boys studying at Harrow. This unique school archive was set up in 1981. It was created to collect and preserve records relating to the history of the School with the intention of making the information accessible to future generations. The archive contains material reflecting the organisation and development of the School from its founding by John Lyon in 1572 up to the present.
It is an integral part of the School and its community containing documents and collections relating to the history of all aspects of School life as well as being used as a study resource by the Harrow School boys, staff and researchers in conjunction with the Vaughan Library and Old Speech Room Gallery.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced, qualified and registered Archivist to ensure the effective running of the School’s archive. The Archivist is responsible for acquiring new items, preserving, cataloguing and storing the collection. There are opportunities to produce exhibitions and displays for the school and work with a range of staff and agencies within the Harrow school community. The archive is well used by academic researchers and handles a high number of enquiries about the school.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
