Area Account Manager – Distribution

Role Overview

A field-based sales role focused on growing profitable business across the Midlands GEWISS region. The position is responsible for developing distributor relationships, creating contractor demand and increasing sales of GEWISS industrial wiring accessories, distribution equipment and related products.

Midlands GEWISS Region — CV, LE, DE, NG, WR, B, ST, SY excluding SY23 & SY25, WV, WS, DY, LD and TF.

Role Responsibilities

Aim of the Position:

  • To grow the designated area by developing additional profitable business through the sale of GEWISS industrial wiring accessories, distribution equipment and related products to electrical distributors.
  • The role will also focus on generating demand with electrical contractors and end users, either independently or through joint activity with distributor partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Increase turnover in line with company goals within the designated sales area.
  • Develop and manage a clear sales pipeline, ensuring opportunities are progressed, followed up and converted in line with agreed targets.
  • Split activity approximately 70% with national and independent electrical wholesalers and 30% creating pull-through sales with small to medium electrical contractors and related end users.
  • Develop profitable business with existing and new customers, building strong relationships and increasing the product mix sold.
  • Identify and target new business opportunities across the territory, including dormant accounts, underperforming accounts and new contractor relationships.
  • Generate business for distributors in the area through sell-out activity with contractors, end users and other relevant third parties.
  • Develop strong relationships with key distributors, including the Top 20 accounts, and work closely with them to increase turnover.
  • Create structured account development plans for key customers, focusing on growth, margin improvement and wider product adoption.
  • Support branch and customer activity through product presentations, promotions, trade mornings and joint customer visits where appropriate.
  • Work closely with internal sales, customer service, marketing and product teams to ensure customer requirements are handled professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain regular contact with your line manager, providing market reports, sales forecasts and updates as required.
  • Provide weekly feedback on competitor pricing and current pricing activity within the local market.
  • Monitor and update all projects through CRM Dynamics, ensuring full compliance and accurate record keeping.
  • Represent GEWISS professionally at customer meetings, branch visits, trade events and any other relevant business activity.

Sales & Commercial

  • At least 1 year’s experience in a similar position preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, closing and time management skills.
  • Relevant industry, market and competitor knowledge would be an advantage.

Customer Development

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Confident in approaching new contacts and developing new business opportunities.

Systems & Administration

  • Confident using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Competent in using online research tools to support sales activity and customer development.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Personal Attributes

  • Professional manner with strong presentation skills.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and organised, with good use of initiative.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Flexible approach with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Full UK driving licence.
