About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and growth-minded Area Director to lead our Commercial Banking team across the Oxford region.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will be responsible for driving market growth, developing a high-performing team of Commercial Relationship Managers, and embedding strong credit risk and governance practices. You will serve as the face of our brand across Oxford’s thriving business community, building high-value networks and helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) achieve their growth ambitions.

- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and empower a high-performing team of Commercial Relationship Managers supporting SME businesses.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, continuous development, and strong team engagement.
- Set clear performance targets, conduct regular coaching, and retain top commercial banking talent.

Brand Promotion & Business Growth
- Serve as the senior ambassador for the bank across Oxford and the surrounding economic area.
- Build and leverage relationships with key professional intermediaries (accountants, lawyers, corporate finance advisors) and local business networks.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth and market share expansion across the SME segment.

Credit Risk & Governance
- Maintain oversight of credit risk, portfolio health, and regulatory compliance across the area portfolio.
- Ensure robust underwriting standards, timely credit reviews, and sound risk mitigation practices.
- Champion a proactive risk culture, ensuring full alignment with internal policies, FCA regulations, and governance standards.

What We Are Looking For
- Commercial Banking Expertise: Proven track record in SME commercial lending, business banking, or corporate financial services.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and elevate a team of relationship managers.
- Oxford Market Knowledge: Established local network and a deep understanding of the Oxford business ecosystem and regional economy.
- Credit & Risk Acumen: Strong expertise in financial analysis, credit structuring, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
- Strategic Networking: Highly skilled at stakeholder engagement, brand building, and intermediary relationship management.
