We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the newly created role of Area Director.
About the Role
Covering the West of England region, you’ll lead your teams to deliver consistent service excellence while building the skills and knowledge of your leaders to achieve good customer outcomes. You’ll also strengthen the market’s external focus and internal collaboration, building strong relationships with key stakeholders to support delivery of our strategic growth ambitions. By creating a high-performing, customer-centric culture and an environment that attracts and retains top talent you’ll position the market for sustained success.
Responsibilities
In this role you will:
- Lead and inspire a multi-branch area (c.16 branches) to deliver service excellence and performance against key objectives, supporting HSBC UK ambitions (including CMA and sNPS outcomes).
- Embed the Network strategy and evolve the branch model from fixed presence to flexible formats (HSBC Local, Shared Hubs) and emerging payment solutions, aligned to where customers need us most.
- Develop leaders and capability across the area through high-quality coaching, education, and resourcing innovation—shifting transactions (cash/cheque) to self-service and digital to create capacity and improve customer outcomes.
- Build HSBC UK’s external profile and strengthen internal partnerships across the Network and with CMB, Wealth & Mortgages, to deliver strategic growth ambitions and enhance brand reputation.
- Create a high-performing, inclusive and well-controlled environment with strong risk and compliance culture, effective cost/FTE management, and a focus on attracting, retaining, and growing diverse talent.

Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven leadership of high-performing teams. Demonstrating managing managers previously and driving business outcomes and change across multiple business areas.
- Passionate about customers with the experience to demonstrate always having customers at the heart of every decision.
- Strong external awareness, able to interpret market trends, anticipate impacts, and turn insights into advantage for HSBC.
- Track record of delivering significant, sustainable change (digital and non-digital), and leading change in a way that inspires and engages others.
- Excellent collaboration and networking, building strong internal and external relationships and creating opportunities for cross-team working.
- Robust risk management and sound judgement, including emerging risks; decisive, tenacious, and able to provide clear direction.
- Resilient, agile communicator, comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities; influences effectively across channels and uses diverse data to set priorities and execute.

Travel
Travel will be around the West region with main branches including: Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Worcester.
