Area General Manager

Purpose of the Role

To provide strategic and operational leadership across a portfolio of contracts, ensuring financial, operational, compliance, and customer service commitments are achieved. Responsible for contract performance, team leadership, client relationships, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a portfolio of contracts, ensuring contractual KPIs and service standards are achieved.
  • Build strong client relationships and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities for contract growth, additional services, and successful contract renewals.
  • Deliver financial targets covering revenue, profit, WIP, debt, and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with BGIS policies, contractual requirements, Health & Safety, and relevant legislation.
  • Lead, recruit, and develop Contract Managers, Supervisors, and Engineering teams.
  • Maintain appropriate contract reviews, audits, and performance controls.
  • Work collaboratively with senior management and other departments to support wider business objectives.
  • Promote BGIS values and standards across all contracts.

Accountability

Reports to the Critical Environments Director/Divisional Director, with responsibility for a small management team and the financial and operational performance of the assigned contract portfolio.

Person Specification

  • Strong Contract Manager-level experience within an HVAC-led environment is essential, with technical knowledge of commercial A/C and chillers.
  • Candidates should have proven experience in people management, client relationships, and financial and contract performance.
  • A good general education is required, ideally degree/HND level, alongside current knowledge of relevant Health & Safety, FGAS, ACOPs, fire, environmental, and building control requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be commercially aware, confident, and proactive, with strong communication, leadership, influencing, and analytical skills.
