Competitive salary, dependent on experience, plus £4,800 car allowance, full family health care, potential 18% bonus & 27.5 days holiday (plus bank holidays)

As a Technical Maintenance Manager, you will lead the performance of automation and assets across a defined geographic area, typically including a Mail Centre or Hub, multiple Delivery Offices, and a ParcelForce depot.
This is a hands-on leadership role, managing teams of Automation and Asset Technicians on-site, ensuring equipment reliability, safety compliance, and high service standards to support operational performance. The role will evolve to include responsibility for EV infrastructure and Out of Home equipment.
You will play a key role in delivering efficient, cost-effective maintenance strategies while driving continuous improvement and innovation aligned with Royal Mail’s business objectives.
This role is site-based, and the successful applicant will be expected to attend Mount Pleasant Mail Centre (London Central) as their primary work location five days per week.
You will also
- Ensure compliance with safety and legislative standards, including PUWER and safe systems of work
- Lead and develop teams, providing clear direction, coaching, and succession planning
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance automation performance and efficiency
- Manage costs across labour, suppliers, and materials, identifying and addressing variances
- Oversee asset lifecycle management, including fault analysis and reliability improvements
- Maintain strong relationships with Operations, unions, and key stakeholders
- Support planning and scheduling to deliver productivity and KPI targets
- Provide hands-on leadership during operational incidents and drive service excellence

About You
- Engineering qualification (HNC/HND minimum, degree preferred) or equivalent experience
- Strong technical background in mechanical, electrical, or building systems
- Proven experience leading engineering or maintenance teams in a complex environment
- Knowledge of health & safety legislation, including PUWER and CDM regulations
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) and experience in safety management systems
- Experience delivering asset maintenance strategies and continuous improvement
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including unions
Budget or financial targets
- c 30-50 direct reports
- Cost control of c £1.5-3m
- Accountability for safe and compliant performance of Automation machinery and c40-80 sites across defined geographical area
Working closely with the Technical Compliance Team
Budget responsibilities for non-staff across the General Manager Region
Governance of Key Performance Indicators for automaton and assets
