About the role
We wouldn't be able to positively impact the way the world shops without our passionate team members. Both behind the scenes within the warehouses and across the front end of the customer experience, we now have an opportunity for an Area Manager to join the team.
As an Area Manager at the [LOCATION], you will be crucial in leading, motivating, and supporting your operational team to maintain exceptional health and safety standards, drive people engagement, and ensure the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) in a dynamic, 24/7 environment. This role exists to foster a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and outstanding employee experience within your business unit.
This is a day role with a 12-hour shift starting at 05:30 AM, following a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.
You will be:
- Using your management skills to lead and motivate teams in a time-sensitive operational environment, focusing on safety, welfare, and conduct.
- Applying your Health & Safety knowledge to ensure exceptional standards, promoting a positive safety culture, and completing detailed adverse event investigations.
- Utilising your people management experience to maintain an exceptional employee experience, drive training/coaching, and address key people KPIs like labour turnover and absence %.
- Using your operational focus to contribute to performance improvement, maintain excellent housekeeping, and ensure adherence to food safety mechanisms.
- Leveraging your communication and numeracy skills to manage daily operations, deliver pre-shift briefings, and report on specific area KPI metrics.

You will also be expected to:
- Undertake tiered management/personal shopper tasks if needed.
- Stand/walk for extended periods.
- Lift objects weighing up to 30kg (periodically from shoulder height).
- Wear protective equipment.
- Train to use Mechanical Handling Equipment.
- Work in environments ranging from 30°C to -30°C.
- Support other sites from time to time.
- Work shifts, including weekends, in an operational 24/7 environment
About you:
The ideal Area Manager candidate must possess the following non-negotiables:
- Previous management experience in a warehouse or logistics environment.
- Experience and knowledge of best practice Health & Safety ways of working.
- Strong verbal and written communication and numeracy skills, used to working with and interpreting large volumes of data.
- Strong performance management knowledge and practical experience of conducting disciplinary & grievance investigations.
- Working knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems and core operating reporting tools.
Desirable (in addition to minimum):
- Food Safety compliance knowledge.
- Experience of working in a 24/7 productivity-conscious operation.
- Mechanical Handling Equipment - Current qualifications / previous experience.
- Previous experience in a continuous improvement environment & demonstrable problem-solving skills.
- IOSH accreditation.
