Area Operations Manager – Pharmacy
Location: Peterborough and surrounding areas
Pharmacies: Approximately 11 pharmacies across the local area
Lead. Inspire. Deliver.
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Area Operations Manager to join our team and lead a portfolio of approximately 11 community pharmacies.
This is a highly visible, field-based leadership role where you will spend the majority of your time in our pharmacies, working alongside colleagues, supporting pharmacy teams and driving outstanding patient care, operational performance, and commercial results.

About the Role
As an Area Operations Manager, you will take ownership of the performance, development, and standards across your area. You will work closely with Pharmacy Managers and their teams to build high-performing pharmacies that deliver an outstanding experience for patients while achieving key performance indicators and budget targets.
You will report directly to the Senior/Regional Operations Manager and play a key role in bringing our Delivering Well strategy to life across your area.
What You'll Be Doing
Drive Operational Performance
- Visit each pharmacy at least every two weeks, providing visible leadership and setting clear SMART actions
- Drive prescription growth, service delivery, and OTC sales in line with agreed budgets
- Translate our Delivering Well strategy into meaningful activity across your pharmacies
- Monitor performance, identify opportunities, and take action to deliver measurable improvements
- Ensure consistent compliance with operational processes and procedures
- Understand competitor activity and identify opportunities to strengthen our position locally

Champion Patient Safety & Quality
- Ensure pharmacies consistently meet GPhC standards and NHS contractual requirements
- Support first-line investigations into patient safety incidents and controlled drug discrepancies
- Ensure NHS quality standards are delivered consistently
- Maintain a strong culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement
Deliver Outstanding Patient Care
- Ensure pharmacy teams actively promote and deliver NHS and private services
- Ensure complaints and incidents are managed effectively and escalated where appropriate
- Build strong relationships with local healthcare professionals and stakeholders
- Ensure patients receive personalized advice and appropriate support for prevention, treatment, and wellbeing
Build High-Performing Teams
- Recruit, develop, and retain talented and motivated colleagues
- Coach Pharmacy Managers and teams to achieve their potential
- Manage performance through regular feedback, coaching, and formal reviews where required
- Identify and develop future talent, creating a strong succession pipeline
- Set clear expectations and ensure teams understand their priorities and objectives
- Create a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous development

About You
You'll be a confident and resilient leader who enjoys working at pace and is comfortable managing multiple priorities across different locations.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience in field-based or multi-site management
- Has a strong understanding of commercial performance and business drivers
- Understands the pharmacy market and profession, ideally with community pharmacy experience
- Has excellent communication and influencing skills
- Is confident coaching, developing, and challenging teams
- Can analyse performance data and turn insight into clear action
- Is highly organised and able to manage competing priorities effectively
- Builds strong and trusted relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders
- Understands NHS contractual requirements and GPhC/PSNI standards
- Is passionate about delivering excellent patient care
- Enjoys being visible, hands-on, and present within their pharmacies
