About the Role
As Area Operations Manager, you'll be the driving force behind service quality and client satisfaction across your sites. You'll oversee day-to-day cleaning and facilities operations across your region — managing site teams, scheduling staff, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, and driving continuous improvement in service delivery. You'll be responsible for a mix of long-standing contracts and new business, working with a diverse portfolio of clients including schools, doctors' surgeries, warehouses, and manufacturing sites across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and London.
Your duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Site and Customer Visits on a monthly basis, auditing premises to ensure cleaning standards are to a high standard
- Manage cleaning staff on a weekly basis, organising cover for sickness and holidays to keep sites fully operational
- Act as the key point of contact for clients, ensuring they receive a quality service and resolve with any complaints swiftly to ensure service level is maintained
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies and equipment, and deliver cleaning materials to sites as needed
- Identify customer needs and highlight potential sales opportunities for the company
- Managing budgets, supporting recruitment and training, and collaborating with account managers to meet contractual obligations

What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in Operations or Facilities Management (ideally within cleaning or support services)
- Strong people management skills — team leadership, staff scheduling, performance monitoring, and training support
- Proven ability to maintain high service standards across multiple sites
- Good understanding of health and safety practices, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with clients, site teams, and management
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to operational issues
- A full UK driving licence, valid and current
Desirable (not essential):
- 1+ years' experience as an Area Manager or within the cleaning industry
- Competence with basic IT tools (email, spreadsheets, reporting systems)
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Flexibility to step in and support cleaning duties when needed, to avoid letting clients down
