Area Operations Manager – Pharmacy
Location: Birmingham, with travel between pharmacy branches
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience
About the Role
We are looking for an organised, commercially aware Area Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational performance of multiple pharmacy branches.
You will support branch managers, develop teams and improve performance across your area. Working closely with pharmacists and senior management, you will help each branch deliver excellent customer service, maintain consistent standards and operate efficiently.
Clinical decisions remain the responsibility of the pharmacy professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee operations across multiple pharmacy branches, maintaining consistent service and retail standards.
- Conduct regular branch visits to review performance, identify issues and agree practical action plans.
- Support and coach branch managers, building accountability and strong team leadership.
- Monitor sales, staffing costs, stock levels and other key performance measures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control costs and grow retail sales.
- Coordinate staffing and rota coverage with branch managers to meet operational needs.
- Support recruitment, induction, training and performance management across the area.
- Oversee stock control, merchandising, cash handling and branch presentation.
- Work with pharmacists and senior management to support adherence to company procedures and address operational concerns.
- Resolve escalated operational and customer service issues, referring clinical matters to the appropriate pharmacy professional.
- Coordinate the rollout of promotions, processes and business initiatives across branches.
- Report on area performance, highlighting progress, risks and support required.

Essential:
- Experience in multi-site retail or operations management, or substantial branch management experience with responsibility for supporting other locations.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coach managers and develop teams.
- Experience monitoring performance targets, staffing costs and stock control.
- Excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and follow through on action plans.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between branches.
