External Sales Manager - Lighting Controls & Components
Location: Remote / Field-Based - Midlands & South of England
Salary: Competitive basic salary + commission, car allowance and benefits
We are working with an established, family run business within the lighting technology and components sector to recruit an experienced External Sales professional to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused salesperson with a background in lighting controls, lighting components or associated technologies, who understands the UK lighting market and has established experience working with lighting OEMs and manufacturers.
You will be responsible for developing existing customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities and helping customers select and specify the right products and solutions for their applications.
The Role
As an External Sales professional, you will work closely with lighting manufacturers and OEM customers across the Midlands and South of England. You will develop relationships at both commercial and technical levels, identify opportunities and support customers throughout the sales and design-in process.
The role will involve a combination of account development, new business generation, technical product engagement and solution selling.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage strong relationships with lighting OEMs, manufacturers and key customers
- Promote a range of lighting components, LED technologies and lighting control solutions
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the lighting manufacturing sector
- Develop design-in opportunities, working with customers to identify suitable products and solutions
- Understand customer applications and provide commercially focused product recommendations
- Deliver product presentations and demonstrations both face-to-face and remotely
- Maintain a healthy and well-managed sales pipeline
- Manage the sales process from initial opportunity through to specification and order
- Achieve agreed sales and revenue targets
- Maintain accurate CRM records and provide regular pipeline and sales updates
- Work closely with internal sales, technical and customer service teams
- Build effective relationships with suppliers and technology partners
- Keep up to date with developments in lighting technology, controls and related products
- Travel regularly throughout the Midlands and South of England to visit customers and prospects

About You
We are looking for an experienced sales professional who understands the lighting industry and is comfortable dealing directly with manufacturers and OEM customers.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in B2B sales within the lighting industry
- A working knowledge of lighting controls, lighting components, LED technology or related products
- Demonstrable experience selling to and working with lighting OEMs and manufacturers
- An understanding of the OEM/design-in sales process
- Experience developing both existing accounts and new business
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify sales opportunities
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
- The confidence to engage with technical, purchasing and senior decision-makers
- Strong organisation, time management and pipeline management skills
- A proactive, self-motivated approach to field-based sales
- The ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into appropriate solutions
- A willingness to learn and develop alongside a changing technology and product landscape
- A full UK driving licence
