Area Sales Manager – Midlands
Build the Territory. Win the Business. Shape What Comes Next.
Universal Motors is growing — and we’re looking for an ambitious, commercially driven Area Sales Manager to take ownership of our Midlands territory.
This is not a role where you inherit a mature territory, a full customer base and a comfortable pipeline. The Midlands is an opportunity to build.
Your role will be simple in principle: get out into the market, identify the right businesses, open doors, build relationships and win the business.
- You’ll have the backing of an established manufacturer, a strong product range, highly competitive pricing, significant UK stockholding and a team that is ready to support you.
- What we need from you is the ability to turn those advantages into customers, sales and long-term relationships.
This is your territory.
You’ll have the freedom and responsibility to develop the Midlands in your own way.
- There’s no long list of accounts to simply manage and no established route to follow.
- You’ll be expected to identify opportunities, prospect new customers, develop relationships and build a pipeline from the ground up.
We want someone who enjoys the chase.
- Someone who is comfortable picking up the phone, walking through a customer's door, asking the right questions and finding opportunities others have missed.
- And when you win the business, you’ll be expected to develop it.
Where Universal Motors already has customers across the region, you’ll also take ownership of strengthening those relationships, increasing our share of their business and ensuring we continue to earn their trust.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
