If you are an experienced B2B sales professional who enjoys winning new business, developing customer relationships and selling technical solutions, this could be a great opportunity to take ownership of a South UK territory.

We are looking for an Area Sales Manager to cover the South of England, from Northampton downwards. This is a field-based role where you will be responsible for growing sales across a strong industrial customer base, developing existing accounts and identifying new business opportunities.

You will need to come from a capital equipment, systems or technical solutions sales environment. This could be experience selling industrial equipment, machinery, engineering systems, production equipment, automation or other project-based solutions into manufacturing businesses.

The role is approximately 60% new business development and 40% account management, so you will need to be comfortable proactively identifying opportunities as well as building long-term relationships with existing customers.

What you will be doing

You will take ownership of the South UK territory, working with manufacturing and industrial customers to understand their processes, identify challenges and recommend the right technical solution.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Developing new business across the South UK
  • Managing and growing existing customer accounts
  • Responding to and converting inbound sales enquiries
  • Identifying new applications, markets and target customers
  • Carrying out customer site visits and surveys
  • Understanding manufacturing processes and customer requirements
  • Developing technically appropriate solutions and commercial proposals
  • Managing sales opportunities from initial enquiry through to project handover
  • Maintaining an accurate CRM sales pipeline and providing reliable forecasts
  • Working closely with Engineering, Projects and Service teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Monitoring competitors and identifying new market opportunities
  • Attending exhibitions and industry events

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in industrial B2B sales, ideally within a capital equipment, machinery, systems or technical solutions environment.

You Will Ideally Have Experience Of

  • Selling capital equipment or engineered systems
  • Working with manufacturing or industrial customers
  • Managing technical sales projects
  • Winning new business and developing existing accounts
  • Conducting customer site visits and understanding operational requirements
  • Working towards sales and gross margin targets
  • Managing a sales pipeline and forecasting accurately

What is important is that you are commercially driven, technically minded and confident selling a solution rather than simply a product.

You will be comfortable having conversations with manufacturing businesses, asking the right questions and understanding how their processes work before recommending a solution.

The person

You will be a self-motivated and organised sales professional who enjoys working autonomously and taking ownership of a territory.

You will have excellent communication skills and be confident building relationships with customers at different levels. You will also need to be collaborative, working closely with internal Engineering, Projects and Service teams to make sure customers receive the right solution and a smooth project handover.

A positive attitude, strong customer focus and willingness to continually learn are important. You will represent the business in front of customers, so professionalism and attention to detail are essential.
