Area Sales Manager – South Coast (Kent to Cornwall)

Marine and Industrial LLP

Location: Field-based, covering the South Coast (Kent to Cornwall) | Based within 1 hour of Southampton

About Us

Marine and Industrial is a family-run wholesale distributor established in 1986, supplying specialist coatings, adhesives, sealants, epoxies, and consumables to the marine industry. We're a key supply chain partner for industry leading brands serving trade customers and chandleries across the UK. While our roots are in the marine sector, our product range spans across general industry and industrial markets — from protective coatings to structural adhesives and bonding systems.

As a long-serving member of our team prepares for retirement, we're looking for their successor to join our supportive, close-knit sales network.

The Role

You'll take ownership of our South Coast territory (Kent to Cornwall), combining sales growth with hands-on technical support for our customers. This is a role for someone who understands paints, coatings, and related chemistry — whether that background comes from marine, general industrial, construction, protective coatings, or manufacturing — and who's as comfortable talking through a technical challenge as they are closing a sale.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing:

  • Driving sales growth across your territory, backed by a supportive team network
  • Managing your area with a structured, CRM-led approach — using data to focus your time on customers with the best sales opportunities
  • Applying your technical knowledge of coatings, paint systems, and adhesives to advise customers and identify the right product for the application
  • Spotting cross-sell opportunities for customers in general industry and industrial sectors, not just traditional marine accounts
  • Communicating clearly and confidently, whether that's problem-solving face-to-face with a customer or talking things through over the phone
  • Building commercial quotes for customers based on volume and value, with a solid grasp of pricing and margin

What We're Looking For

  • Based within a 1-hour commute of Southampton, with the flexibility to cover the South Coast territory (Kent to Cornwall)
  • A strong, in-depth understanding of paints and coatings — this could come from a marine background, but is equally valuable from general industrial, protective coatings, construction, or manufacturing sectors
  • A proven track record in sales, ideally area/territory management, with confident use of CRM tools
  • A practical, technically-minded approach — able to get under the skin of product ranges like adhesives and coatings and translate that into customer advice
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone
  • Strong commercial acumen, comfortable quoting on volume and value
  • A well-presented individual who leaves an impression
