Role Description

The Area Sales Representative – Builders Merchants role is a full-time, hybrid position which will require visiting the office in Luton as well as clients across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, and Hertfordshire. In this role, the representative will be selling builders merchants products to the construction sector within an assigned territory to promote products, build relationships, and secure new and repeat orders.

  • Managing a sales pipeline
  • Conducting site visits
  • Providing product demonstrations and technical support
  • Negotiating pricing and terms in line with company guidelines
  • Monitoring market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for growth and improve sales performance
  • Preparing regular sales reports
  • Maintaining accurate customer records
  • Collaborating with internal teams to ensure smooth delivery, stock availability, and customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Experience in field sales or account management, within builders merchants, construction, or related building products
  • Candidates will need to be managing large accounts currently working for a builders merchant with a strong knowledge of the sector
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills to engage effectively with trade customers and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage a territory, organize schedules, and work independently to meet and exceed sales targets
  • Solid understanding of basic numeracy and commercial awareness for pricing, margin, and stock considerations
  • Comfort using CRM systems and standard office software to record activities, prepare reports, and track performance
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly across the assigned area
  • Knowledge of builders merchant operations and construction materials is essential
  • Professional, reliable, and customer-focused approach, with the ability to represent the brand positively on-site
  • Relevant education or training in sales, business, or construction-related disciplines is beneficial but not mandatory
