Location

Knostrop House, Leeds, with very regular site visits and meetings throughout Yorkshire.

Work type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. The duties involve working within a standby rota

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Area Support Engineer to join the Area Support Engineering Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Our engineering business unit provides the technical expertise and support necessary to shape a multi-billion pound capital programme and manage the health and performance of c.7500 sites located throughout the region. Whether it involves preventing asset failure, delivering minor improvements or building major treatment works, we are at the centre of the action; no 2 days are ever the same!

To further increase the support we provide to operations, asset management and capital projects we’re now expanding our pool of pragmatic, collaborative and highly talented engineers.

Where you fit in

As our Area Support Engineer, you will:

  • Be the focal point of technical decision making in respect of asset changes, interventions and failure recovery
  • Provide technical support and advice to operational managers and senior managers
  • Work with our multi-disciplined technical support team to ensure complex matters are fully understood, root causes are identified and sustainable solutions are implemented
  • Explore, understand and then inform, advise, steer and challenge capital interventions
  • Be the technical conscience of a very busy operational environment
  • Drive our unending commitment to asset safety, customer service, water quality and environmental protection

What skills & qualifications you will need

  • Minimum Level 4 (BNC/BTEC) qualification in an engineering subject
  • 5 years of hands-on experience spanning subjects such as asset maintenance, design, risk assessment and changes

  • A solid understanding of multi-discipline engineering (M,E&ICA)
  • A working understanding of HSE regulations such as CDM, DSEAR, COSHH, LOLER
  • Proven people skills, a passion for doing things right and the ability succinctly express complex subjects

You will benefit from having

  • A Level 6 (Bachelor degree) or greater qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Control Engineering
  • IEng - Incorporated Engineer (or CEng) status
  • Experience within the water sector
  • A basic understanding of ISO55001 asset management principles
  • A methodical logical approach to problem solving
  • The ability to pull teams together, coach, persuade, explain and sometimes challenge bad decisions
