# **Armourer** – **Swindon, Wiltshire**

**Salary:** £37,111.44 + **Benefits** (with salary rising to £39,679.10 upon completion of **Level 4 CET qualification**)
**Role Type:** Full-time / Permanent
**Location:** Onsite at **Lyneham**, near **Swindon, Wiltshire**
**Working Hours:** **37 hours per week**, **Monday to Friday**

## **About the Role**
Inspire the next generation of military technicians at **Babcock**, where you’ll play a crucial role in training British Army soldiers across **weapons systems**.

As an **Armourer**, your hands-on experience becomes **teaching know-how**, empowering the next cohort of skilled operatives. Whether it’s diagnosing faults, maintaining equipment, or delivering practical training, you’ll make a direct and meaningful impact—while further developing your own career in a support-driven environment.

## **Key Responsibilities**
Your day-to-day role will include:

- **Delivering weapons training**, covering:
  - Disassembly and reassembly of weapons.
  - **Diagnosing faults** and performing **maintenance tasks**.
- **Developing and updating** lesson plans and training materials, aligned with **current equipment and industry standards**.
- **Assessing learners** through:
  - Written tests.
  - Practical assessments.
  - Continuous feedback.
- **EnsuringCourse content refreshes** to reflect advancements in **engineering practices** and **safety protocols**.
- **Maintaining records** and guaranteeing that training environments, weapons, and equipment meet the highest standards of **safety** and **security**.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

Successful candidates should have:

Experience

  • Serving as an Armourer in one of the following roles:
    • Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).
    • Royal Navy Weapons Engineer.
    • Royal Air Force (RAF) Armourer.
    • Police Armourer.
  • Proven craft and technical engineering skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to:
    • Motivate and support learners.
    • Encourage skill development with empathy.

Qualifications

  • A Class 1 Armourer qualification.
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent experience with weapons/armament systems).
  • A willingness to commit to Level 4 Teacher Training Certification (CET) once employed—funding available.

Security Clearance

  • This role requires a Security Check (SC) clearance. Eligibility is dependent on factors such as nationality, residency, and military service. Please review the guidelines from United Kingdom Security Vetting.
