The Bridge Academy – Art & Design Technician
The Bridge Academy – an inclusive and inspirational academy in South Hackney where innovative thinking and creativity are encouraged and aspirations are raised – is seeking an Art & Design Technician.
The successful candidate will support the Art & Design department with practical resources, displays, equipment, and technical advice, helping to provide an outstanding learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing materials and equipment for Art & Design lessons and projects, including demonstration materials and resources for Art & Design teachers and lessons.
- Ensuring the availability of suitable materials and equipment and suggesting alternatives for suitability, sustainability, and economy.
- Stocking classrooms with consumable resources and managing practical resources.
- Loading and running the Kiln, mixing glazes and slips, and preparing and recycling clay.
- Supporting teachers and students with a practical working knowledge of painting, 3D and textile-based work, including sculpture, screen-printing, and etching.
- Facilitating ICT and New Media in the Art & Design department, including photography and other audio/visual media.
- Implementing and managing computer systems, databases, and image banks, scanning and downloading images, and leading on Adobe Photoshop and other new media applications.
- Photographing Art & Design resources and recording students’ work.
- Displaying, framing, and mounting the work of students within the Art & Design department and around the Academy.
- Creating signs and posters and preparing materials when needed.
- Keeping sinks, worktops, stock rooms, and preparation and resource areas clean, tidy, and in good order.
- Carrying out routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, testing, and repairing of equipment to the required standard.
- Ensuring the safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials, and providing technical advice on Health & Safety issues.
- Managing stock control, compiling orders, ordering, liaising or negotiating with suppliers, and maintaining appropriate records.
- Advising and assisting students and teachers on an individual or group basis, demonstrating processes and the use of media, materials, and Art & Design references.

Skills and Experience
- GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths or equivalent.
- A Levels or equivalent / Art & Design qualification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation.
- Experience of stock control.
- Knowledge of safeguarding children requirements.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a range of tools and equipment.
- Ability to prepare equipment and materials for lessons, as requested by teaching staff.
- Ability to work in an organized and methodical manner.
- Ability to identify work priorities and manage own workload.
- Ability to maintain accurate work records and inventories.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with pupils, including those with special educational needs.
- Appropriate knowledge of First Aid or willingness to be trained in First Aid.
- A passion for Art & Design.

Salary
Pro Rata: £18,339 - £19,512 (FTE: £26,939 - £28,663). If an inflationary increase is awarded in the new academic year 2026/2027, these figures will increase.
Location
South Hackney, London.
Contract/Hours
Permanent, term time only, Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Start date
Immediate, subject to the completion of the pre-employment checks process.
Closing date
9.00 am, Friday 11 September 2026.
