AI Engineers – Newcastle – £60,000 to £120,000 per year DOE – On-site

FryerMiles are delighted to be working with a leading technology consultancy that is expanding its specialist AI and engineering team.

About the Role

We are looking for talented Software Engineers with strong hands-on experience across Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. We are open to candidates with different areas of expertise, including Machine Learning, Applied AI, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG and Agentic AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI/ML solutions from early-stage concepts through to production.
  • Develop, evaluate and integrate AI/ML models and applications.
  • Work across modern AI technologies including LLMs, RAG, NLP, Computer Vision and agent-based systems.
  • Assess model performance, investigate failure modes and optimise solutions.
  • Develop robust, high-quality Python software for technically complex applications.
  • Work closely with experienced engineers, technical specialists and customers to solve challenging real-world problems.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong Python and software engineering skills.
  • Solid understanding of core AI and Machine Learning concepts.
  • Hands-on experience developing and delivering AI/ML solutions.
  • Good understanding of how AI/ML models work, rather than simply using pre-built models as black-box components.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Machine Learning or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Machine Learning model development and training.
  • LLMs, transformers, RAG and Agentic AI.
  • LangChain, LangGraph or similar AI orchestration frameworks.
  • PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn or Hugging Face.
  • Vector databases, embeddings and model evaluation.
  • NLP, Computer Vision or multimodal AI.
  • Edge AI, AI safety, security or explainability.
  • Experience working on technically complex or highly regulated projects.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain appropriate UK security clearance where required.
  • Willingness to work from the company's North East office and travel to customer sites when required.
