AI Engineer Intern - Computer Vision & Video Understanding

Halo Hive | Newcastle upon Tyne, England | On-site

Help turn real-world skills into knowledge that technology can learn from.

About Halo Hive

Halo Hive is a UK marketplace connecting homeowners with home service professionals. Our Home Passport concept gives each property a digital record of completed repairs, installations and improvements.

Alongside the platform, we’re exploring how first-person video of service work can become structured work records and, over time, useful training data for AI and robotic learning.

We’re looking for an AI Engineer Intern to help investigate that opportunity through focused experiments, thoughtful data handling and working prototypes.

The role

You’ll work directly with Halo Hive’s founder on an applied research project involving video processing and computer vision.

The focus is understanding what happens during a service job: which tools are used, which actions take place and how a task progresses. You’ll explore how AI can extract useful information from footage, evaluate where it succeeds and document where human review remains necessary.

Your core project

Build a reproducible video-processing pipeline and one focused prototype for video summarisation or activity recognition.

You’ll evaluate the prototype against an agreed labelled dataset and produce a short technical report covering results, limitations and recommended next steps. We’ll agree the scope at the start of the internship, based on your experience, available footage and placement length.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Maintain clear experiment logs, readable code and reproducible evaluation steps.
  • Apply agreed consent, access and privacy requirements throughout the workflow.
  • Present findings clearly, including unsuccessful experiments and practical limitations.

What we’re looking for

  • Practical Python skills and a foundation in machine learning.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow, alongside OpenCV or similar tools.
  • An interest in computer vision, video understanding or robotics.
  • Experience using Git and working with APIs and structured datasets.
  • An ability to break an open-ended question into manageable experiments.
