Founding AI Engineer | LLMs & Intelligent Systems | Fully Remote

Salary: DOE

Location: UK – Fully Remote

Contract: Permanent

Want to build an AI platform from scratch and actually own what you're creating?

We're working with a specialist renewable energy consultancy that's looking for its very first AI Engineer to build an ambitious new AI platform from the ground up.

This isn't a role where you'll be joining a large engineering team, picking up tickets and making small changes to someone else's code.

You'll be the person building the technology.

Working directly with a company director, you'll be developing an AI system that can understand complex contracts, emails and project documents, connect information across different sources and suggest what needs to happen next.

Think LLMs, intelligent document processing, information extraction and building systems that can turn huge amounts of unstructured information into something genuinely useful.

The best part? You'll have real ownership over how it's built.

From the architecture and technology choices through to developing the first working version, you'll play a central role in shaping the product.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Building an AI platform from scratch, taking it from an initial concept through to a working product.
  • Working hands-on with Large Language Models (LLMs) to interpret and extract information from contracts, emails and documents.
  • Developing intelligent systems that connect information, identify what matters and recommend next steps.
  • Designing data models and architecture to support different users and business functions.
  • Integrating with Microsoft 365, Outlook and external document management platforms.
  • Developing AI-powered workflows for contract management, procurement, planning and risk management.
  • Making key technical decisions and working closely with senior leadership to bring the platform to life.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who Are We Looking For?

Here's the interesting bit.

You don't need 5+ years of experience, and you don't need to have worked in renewable energy before.

We're much more interested in what you've actually built and how you approach difficult technical problems.

You could be:

  • A strong Computer Science or AI graduate who's built impressive projects.
  • Someone finishing a PhD in AI, Machine Learning or a related technical field.
  • An early-career AI Engineer who's already getting hands-on with LLMs and wants more responsibility.

What matters most:

  • Strong programming ability and projects you can confidently talk through.
  • Genuine hands-on experience with LLMs, including an understanding of where they work well and where they fall short.
  • Good knowledge of data modelling and designing software systems.
  • Confidence working with messy, unstructured information such as documents and emails.
  • Someone who enjoys solving problems independently and taking ownership of their work.
  • The right to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Bonus points for experience with:

  • Python, NLP, information extraction, Microsoft Graph, Microsoft 365 integrations or external APIs.
  • Mandarin or Japanese language skills would also be useful, but aren't essential.

Why Is This Opportunity Different?

  • 🚀 Be the First Engineer You'll be the company's first technical hire, building the platform from day one.
  • 🧠 Work on Real AI Problems This is about much more than connecting an LLM to a chatbot. You'll be tackling complex information extraction, document understanding and intelligent workflows.
  • 🛠️ Own the Technical Direction You'll have genuine input into the architecture, technologies and decisions behind the product.
  • 🌍 Fully Remote Working Work remotely from anywhere in the UK.
  • 🤝 Work Directly With a Director You'll be close to the decisions being made and have the opportunity to influence the direction of the platform.
  • 💻 Dedicated Tools Budget You'll have a budget for the tools you need to get the job done.
  • 📈 Build Something With Real Impact The platform is being developed to support major renewable energy projects, helping teams make sense of complex information and manage their work more effectively.

If you're someone who enjoys building with AI, likes solving difficult problems and wants the chance to take real ownership of a product from day one, this is worth a conversation.

You don't need to tick every box. If you've built something impressive and can explain how it works, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply now or get in touch for a confidential chat about the opportunity.
